Petra was the rock-cut capital of the Nabataeans and a major caravan centre linking trade routes between Arabia, Egypt and the Mediterranean. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What to know

The main approach enters through the Siq before reaching the Treasury.

The main trail continues beyond the Treasury toward the Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street and Qasr Al-Bint.

Petra is extensive; seeing more than the Treasury requires substantial walking.
